Introducing The Hold.
Sydney-based handbag label, The Hold has officially launched with a short film, Envelop written and directed by Holly Graham (Siy Studio).
The Hold handbags are designed by founder, Rae Pooley and handmade by carefully selected artisans from the North of India.
The unique bags are functional and ornamental pieces of art for your home and to carry with you.
With a visual story that finds poetry in a seemingly regular morning, the film's narrative tells the experience of two lovers and the "almost fictional love they are enveloped in”. The film is set in a modest but beautiful mid-century home in the bushland outside of Melbourne.
The Hold founder and creative director, Rae Pooley says, “The Hold was born from a love of beautiful form, contrasting textures, and natural materials. We wanted to find a way to capture this sentiment through a short film, with the architecture and set styling complimenting the subtle yet considered placement of The Hold handbags.”
“The connection to create the short film unfolded organically, with the story and the handbags complimenting each other in their relative beauty.”
“Every single handbag is made by hand by artisans in the North of India and we are excited to showcase the range alongside the beautiful film. When something is made by hand, it imbues a sentimentality that is not only an ode to the artisan but also to keeping traditional craft alive.”
The lead woman, portrayed by Kellie Bird, is both effortlessly beautiful and relatable in equal measures. The original music score by Ryan Ritchie (former frontman of True Live/The Raah Project) complements the cinematic imagery by DOP, Jensen Cope. Shot with a skeletal crew, in a single day, the short film is captivating in its simple and evocative storytelling — leaving room for the viewer's own interpretation.
